Suggestions on How to Use a Labyrinth from Wisdom Ways Center For Spirituality in Saint Paul, MN

  1. Before entering, consider a thoughtful question, prayer or calming image to hold in your mind as you begin walking.

  2. Simply walk the path. As you focus on your steps, everything else can melt away.

  3. Upon reaching the center: sit or stand with your eyes closed or looking downward. Take three deep breaths, and reflect on how you are feeling.

  4. Walking back: return to the question, prayer or image you began with.

  5. After walking: try journaling about your labyrinth experience, or sharing with another. What did you discover? What changed from the time you entered until the time you exited the labyrinth?

  6. (We add this suggestion to the above five) Remember that you accepted the gift of time with yourself when you decided to walk the labyrinth. As you notice thoughts and feelings arise gently accept and not judge them, they are neither right nor wrong, they are what they are. Make time to investigate them afterwards, perhaps with journaling or if it feels safe, with sharing.
